Footwear - Court Sport Shoes

If someone is playing a court sport such as tennis, basketball, pickleball, or volleyball consistently one or more times per week for extended periods of time, then they really should consider getting a sport specific shoe.  Each sport will have its own specific characteristics depending on what motions are most needed for that sport, but the general characteristics of court shoes include:

  • They are designed for quick cutting and side to side motions
  • Are flared/built up medially and laterally for stability when cutting and shifting side to side
  • Soles are wider and tend to expand beyond the width of the upper part of the shoe
  • Designed to prevent rolling of the ankles and feet
  • Basketball and Volleyball shoes will have additional cushioning material in the forefoot for shock absorption for jumping and landing
