James Yakel, DPM- Brighton, Colorado
Elected President of American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine At the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine Annual Meeting held last week in Boston, Massachusetts, the AAPSM is pleased to announce that James D. Yakel, DPM, a sports medicine podiatrist in private practice in Brighton, Colorado, was elected President. Dr. Yakel received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. In addition to being a Fellow and President of the AAPSM, Dr. Yakel is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and the American Professional Wound Care Association.
Elected along with Dr. Yakel were: President-Elect- Robert Conenello, DPM, Orangeburg, New York; Vice President- Paul R. Langer, DPM, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Secretary/Treasurer- David Jenkins, Glendale, Arizona and newly elected Director – Dianne Mitchell, DPM, Sacramento, California. Karen Langone, DPM, Southhampton, New York serves as Immediate Past President. Rita J. Yates, of Walkersville, Maryland, serves as AAPSM Executive Director.
“It is a privilege to serve as the AAPSM’s new president and to continue implementing the strategic plan that was put into place by my predecessors,” stated Dr. Yakel.
The AAPSM was also pleased to present the following awards during the meeting: 2011 Richard Schuster Award to Amol Saxena, DPM (Brian Fullem, DPM accepted the award on his behalf), and the Robert Barnes Distinguished Service Award to Timothy Dutra, DPM.
