I have a confession. Some days I am not as motivated as others to tackle my days responsibilities. I could be under the weather, tired or just beat down by negativity. I'm sure I am not alone. However I know that my patients depend upon me to make their quality of life better. My strategy every day is to jumpstart my soul.

Provided by Icy Feet Orthotic Cold Pack
Dear AAPSM Members:
I would like to introduce you to the Icy Feet Orthotic Cold Pack. Icy Feet is the first and only icing product that has been specifically design and engineered to reduce pain and inflammation to the plantar surface of the foot. Many of the designed features incorporated into this patent pending product came from ideas and suggestions that were provided to Icy Feet by a group of medical professionals including podiatrists, physical therapist and sports medicine specialists. What evolved is a product that will truly change the way you use icing in your practice.

CT Podiatrists Explain Meaningful Use to Visiting Congressman
Congressman Jim Himes paid a visit recently to The Foot and Ankle Institute of Darien to learn about local businesses and the "meaningful use" federal grant program. AAPSM Fellow Dr. Robert F. Weiss, also known as The Running Doctor, and his son, Dr. Scott H. Weiss, played host to Himes and shared information about their involvement in the meaningful use program.

The Institute's use of electronic health records allows it to transmit patient information to hospitals and electronic prescriptions to pharmacies. The practice was founded in 1986 as The Podiatry Center of Darien by Dr. Robert Weiss. In 2008, his son joined the practice and the name was changed to The Foot and Ankle Institute of Darien.
TPMA's Marathon Medical Team Aids Houston Marathon Winner
January 13, 2013 was a special day for Ethiopia’s Bazu Worku. The 22 year old runner won the Houston Marathon with a time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 16 seconds. He was elated, but was also in pain. He complained of pain to his right foot and saw the tip of the shoe was a dark red color. As always, podiatry is a big part of the marathon's medical team and AAPSM Past President and Fellow Jeff Ross, DPM along with other TPMA members were on hand to treat the competitors.

Mr. Worku suffered from multiple blister formations on several digits on his right foot. Mr. Worku thanked the podiatry team for its quick response, alleviating his pain.
FL Podiatrist Performs ORIF Repair
At 61, Rosemarie Danchik had never stepped foot in a podiatry office until last week, after she fell through her attic into her garage. AAPSM Associate Dr. Peter Walimire, 33, a foot and ankle surgeon with Athletic Orthopaedic and Reconstructive Center, suggested that she undergo surgery Monday. In the hospital, he performed a repair called an ORIF, or open reduction internal fixation of the calcaneus, or heel bone, which Danchik had broken in three places.

Reconstructive surgery is Walimire’s specialty, and Southwest Florida adults could have a variety of reasons to need his services. Problems with feet tend to increase with age and are often the first signs of serious illness. Podiatry is sometimes seen as the step-child of medicine, but the specialty involves much more than ingrown toenails.
FL Podiatrist's Orlando Restaurant Tops Zagat Rankings
In a David-and-Goliath-like showdown, Cress restaurant in downtown DeLand received the top spot in Zagat Survey's 2013 Orlando City Guide, which includes rankings of restaurants in the greater Orlando area. Cress nosed out the posh Victoria & Albert's in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for top honors in the area, although the latter took top honors for service.

Executive Chef Hari Pulapaka and Dr. Jenneffer Pulapaka
"We're elated about the ranking," said Executive Chef Hari Pulapaka a tenured math professor at Stetson University who co-owns the eatery with his wife, Dr. Jenneffer Pulapaka, an AAPSM Associate with a practice in DeLand. "It's gratifying that enough people think we're worth trying. I'm proud of our team, and it's always a good thing to bring attention to our community." His wife echoed the sentiment. "It's excitement for a job well done," she said. "We're humbled when looking at the group we're in."
